Judge rules for Foster in Bridgeport ballot dispute

A superior court judge has ruled in favor of Mary Jane Foster in her quest to force a Democratic primary in the race for mayor

BRIDGEPORT - A superior court judge has ruled in favor of Mary Jane Foster in her quest to force a Democratic primary in the race for mayor of Bridgeport.

Foster had been denied a spot on the ballot because her petition included four candidates for the Board of Education.

Foster had claimed the city's Democratic Registrar of Voters knew her petition was flawed, but intentionally waited until after the deadline had passed to say something.

The judge also gave her extra time to campaign, pushing the Democratic primary against Mayor Bill Finch to Sept. 27.

The mayor's spokesperson tells News 12 that the city has not decided whether it will appeal the ruling.
