DARIEN - Darien police officials say the addition Tuesday of a K9 to their department was badly needed.

Officials say research done by the Darien Police Department shows that between 2006 and 2008, there were 555 incidents in the town in which a K9 could have been of use.

The new K9, named Zulu, was already hard at work Tuesday. On its first day with the department, Zulu has gone along to serve a search warrant and helped respond to a missing-child report.
