WESTON - An autistic boy from Weston has reached the karate milestone of black belt after years of dedicated work.

Kyle Derman's parents, Marina and Bryan, say there is no way he could have had so much progress without the help of his dedicated instructor, Mark Wilkinson.

Kyle's parents say his 13 years in karate has helped him bring perseverance and discipline into other activities in school and at home.

Wilkinson says Kyle was unfocused when he first started, but over time, Kyle began speaking more and excelling at the sport.
