MILFORD - A Milford family whose loved one died of a heroin overdose hopes to raise awareness about drug addiction.
When female lacrosse players take to the field at Joseph A. Foran High School in Milford, they will do so to raise funds to battle addiction. The game will be dedicated to Jessica Burrows, who died of a heroin overdose about seven years after she graduated from the school in 2004.
Her two younger sisters play lacrosse at Foran, and the family hopes no other families experience a similar loss.
"People associate drug addiction with criminals or people who are bad or lowlifes, but it can choose anyone," says Hope Burrows, who lost her sister to drugs. "You never know when it's going to affect you or the ones that are closest to you."
Proceeds from the game, which is at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, will go to the Milford Prevention Council.
