WESTPORT - The family of a couple killed when a tree fell on their car on the Merritt Parkway is now suing the state for millions of dollars.

Joseph Stavola and Jeanne Serocke-Stavola died in 2007 when a tree fell on their car on the Merritt in Westport.

Their family says the Department of Transportation failed to clear trees from the highway and should have known the trees were dangerous.

The attorney general's office says the state was not negligent and should not be liable.
