STAMFORD - Gov. Dannel Malloy (D-Conn.) says he has no choice but to begin issuing layoff notices to as many as 7,500 workers following the rejection of his budget plan by some state unions.

The $1.6 billion concessions and savings deal was an integral part in closing the state deficit and balancing the budget.

Malloy says most of the cuts would come in the second year of the budget. He has called the Legislature back for a special session next Thursday to vote on a revised budget.

The governor plans to release the newest budget on Monday and says layoff notices will be sent as soon as possible.
