SOUTH NORWALK - Several southwestern Connecticut lawmakers are blaming misinformation for panic Metro-North fares were increasing by 10 percent.

State senators Bob Duff, Andrew McDonalds and Gayle Slossberg and state Rep. Chris Perone say the confusion stems from a transfer of $7 million between Transportation Department accounts. The legislators want to reassure the public the state budget passed this week does not call for any hikes.

"This was a request by the administration for a temporary accounting maneuver that was going to be reversed by the end of the month," says McDonald.
