NORWALK - Local leaders say they're outraged over a proposal from Gov. Dannel Malloy to eliminate car taxes on vehicles valued at less than $28,000.

Wilton First Selectman Bill Brennan says the tax cut will hurt municipalities that rely on car taxes for their budget. Brennan says car taxes make up about 10 percent of Wilton's budget and that without them, Wilton would have to raise property taxes to make up the difference.

Malloy has defended his idea, saying it will provide tax relief for the middle class.
