NORWALK - In an attempt to make roadways safer, four Connecticut police departments are teaming up to crack down on bad drivers.

The police departments of Norwalk, Westport, Wilton and New Canaan are working together to enforce seatbelt, cell phone and drinking while driving laws.

"Essentially it is an opportunity for us to maximize our manpower, our equipment and bring people into the various communities to do enforcement," Wilton Police Department Chief Ed Kilhawik says.

The departments plan to increase checkpoints on Connecticut roads to catch law breakers, but say that the teamwork will also help departments during difficult economic times.
