BRIDGEPORT - Elderly and disabled residents say they're relieved as repairs begin on their complex's elevator that’s been broken for three weeks.

City officials say the elevator at the federally funded Hall Commons Complex on George E. Pipkin's Way in Bridgeport stopped working over Christmas. The broken elevator made it hard for some residents to get around, with some having to be carried down the stairs by EMS crews in order to get medical attention.

Sen. Richard Blumenthal says he contacted the complex today and found out the elevator hadn't been repaired yet due to a part not being delivered. Blumenthal had his staff contact the company to ensure it was available

The building's manager told News 12 Connecticut a repair crew had shown up to work on the elevator following Blumenthal’s interview.
