MILFORD - A Vietnam War veteran from Milford has helped restore death benefits to families of troops killed in combat.

Lt. Col. Joe Viscount, of the U.S. Air Force, flew thousands of dead American heroes home from Vietnam over a 10-year period. When the government shutdown kept the bodies of current American troops from being flown home from Afghanistan, Viscount lobbied Congress on behalf of 600 fellow disabled veterans to restore the necessary funding immediately.

Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) says Congress passed an emergency measure to fix the problem due to Viscount's efforts.
