NEW CANAAN - A New Canaan police officer has been suspended for his role in a bar fight earlier this year.

Lt. Fred Pickering was accused of fighting while off duty at the Tequila Mockingbird Restaurant in February.

Police say an internal investigation determined that Pickering violated department rules although it cleared him of an allegation that he used racially offensive language.

Pickering has been suspended 10 days without pay.
