GREENWICH - Gov. Dannel Malloy was in Stamford Friday to sign new legislation aimed to improve boating safety.

Emily's Law is named for Greenwich teen Emily Fedorko, who died last summer in a boating accident on the Long Island Sound.

The new law raises the age to tow someone on a boat from 13 to 16 years old. The law also requires motors to take a specific safety course in Connecticut.

The state is still working out what exactly those new training courses will entail, but the governor says the new rules will be ready when they go into effect on Oct. 1.
