GREENWICH - Greenwich First Selectman Peter Tesei says politics prevailed over preparedness when Gov. Dannel Malloy (D-Conn.) made a surprise appointment for the position of harbor master.

Ian McMillan showed up in Tesei's office yesterday with a letter from the governor saying he had been appointed to the position.

However, the town had selected another man for the job and submitted his name to the governor for confirmation.

Tesei says while McMillan was not his choice, preferring Stamford police officer and Greenwich resident Billy Fox for the job, he will embrace McMillan and work with him to make sure the interest of the community is well-served.

A spokesman for the governor told News 12 Connecticut that Malloy intended no offense and Fox would not have been an appropriate choice due to "a conflict of police powers."
