Man accused in death of Shelton officer in court

BRIDGEPORT - A Bridgeport man police say was drunk when he hit struck and killed a Shelton police officer last month was in court this morning.

Bruce Knapik is currently only charged with DUI in connection with the crash that occurred as people were leaving the Fourth of July fireworks. Sgt. Orville Smith died four days after the crash.

Police say they are still investigating and expect more charges to be filed after the investigation is complete.

Knapik's attorney says his client is fearful of what may happen and is praying for the Smith family.
