WILTON - ? Chinese citizen Joseph Mo Pun Lau was arraigned today in Hartford on charges of mail theft, bank fraud and illegal entry into the United States.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Investigators say that Lau made a copy of a mail drop-box key and used it to gain access to checks, which he would then alter and deposit into bank accounts.

Police say that Lau was deported several years ago for similar crimes and that he wasn?t even allowed to be in southwestern Connecticut.
