NORWALK - A 79-year-old man died Thursday after he was struck by a car in Norwalk, police say.

It happened on Newtown Avenue around 11:30 p.m.

Police say the victim was walking in the road when he was hit.

The car's driver stopped immediately and called police.

Police have not yet released the victim's name pending notification of his family.

Police say pedestrian accidents are rare in the neighborhood but they are reminding residents to wear brightly colored or reflective clothing when walking at night. They say people should also walk on the left side of the road, facing traffic.
