STAMFORD - A man is undergoing a psychiatric evaluation after a nine-hour standoff with Stamford police yesterday.

Police say the man is a 60-year-old former officer with another department "with a significant amount of law enforcement experience and firearms expertise."

They said he was heavily armed and threatened to commit suicide.

After hours of negotiations, police say the man surrendered and was arrested. No one was hurt.To watch extended footage of the Stamford standoff, click on iO Extra on Channel 612.
