NORWALK - A Virginia man made a stop in southwestern Connecticut on Thursday during his journey to raise awareness of homeless veterans.
For more than two years, Leroy Bailey says he has walked at least 20 miles a day while carrying a 42-pound backpack. He says he is walking the perimeter of the United States in an effort to help and bring awareness to the veterans.
"I was homeless 32 years ago in Buffalo, NY," Bailey says. "I've been working with homeless people ever since."
He says he has walked over 10,000 miles and has gone through 10 pairs of shoes.
Bailey says he's raising money to build what he calls "hope centers," a place where homeless people can learn job skills and get their lives back on track.
