Manslaughter charge filed in death of an officer

SHELTON - A Bridgeport man is now facing manslaughter charges in the death of a Shelton police officer.

Police say Bruce Knapik, 63, was drunk when he struck Sgt. Orville Smith as Smith directed traffic after a fireworks show.

Until now, Knapik had only been charged with DUI in connection with the crash.
