STAMFORD - After more than 60 years, the widow of one World War II veteran has finally received the medals he earned.

U.S. Rep. Jim Himes presented them to Kathleen Schaffer this morning.

Her husband, Sgt. Clarence Schaffer Jr., served for several years as a paratrooper in the Philippines.

Schaffer tells us she never even knew her husband had earned the medals.

She only found out while reading paperwork from the Veterans Affairs after he died.
