HARTFORD - Connecticut's medical marijuana law is among a slew of new state laws that went into effect today. Residents eligible for medical marijuana prescriptions can now apply online to receive the drug. To qualify, patients must be at least 18 years old and have full approval from their physicians. Also, homes undergoing renovations are now required to have working smoke detectors installed. The measure stems from the Christmas Day fire that killed three young girls and their grandparents in Stamford. A new missing children law is on the books, as well. The policy makes it a misdemeanor to knowingly fail to report the disappearance of a child under the age of 12.
