GREENWICH - Some people worried that Greenwich might see an influx of commuters due to a fare increase in New York can breathe easy.

Metro-North had proposed raising fares for trains originating in New York. The increase would have made a ticket from Port Chester and Rye more expensive than one in Greenwich.

The proposal had concerned people afraid commuters would overwhelm Greenwich in search of the cheaper fares.

Metro-North says it may still raise rates if Connecticut approves a fare increase in January.
