NEW HAVEN - Quiet cars are arriving on Metro-North?s New Haven line, and commuters are giving them two thumbs up.

Eighteen trains on the New Haven line will now have at least one car in which all noise, including loud conversations, is banned completely.

The program will start on Monday on rush-hour trains. Popular items, such as a cell phone and an iPod, will be banned from use. Metro-North officials say that commuters are allowed to converse, but their voices must be subdued.

Officials also state that the program will be self-monitored and that commuters are expected to participate voluntarily.

For trains heading into Grand Central in the morning, the quiet car will be the last car. For those traveling back in the evening, the first car will be the quiet car. Metro-North officials say that there will be announcements to remind people of those locations.
