NORWALK - The Metro-North Railroad says it is replacing the aging rail cars that operate on the New Haven line with new M8 cars.

Metro-North says that it has 78 of the new cars operating on the line, meaning about one in four of its rail cars is new.

The railroad says that its new car deployment is currently about a year and a half behind schedule.

Commuters who have had an opportunity to ride in the new cars say they like the better lighting, seating and restroom facilities.

Jim Cameron of the Connecticut Rail Commuter Council says that the new cars should have been ordered sooner.
