SUFFIELD - Michael Skakel was denied parole today in the 1975 murder of his Greenwich neighbor.

Skakel has served 10 years of his 20 years-to-life sentence for beating Martha Moxley with a golf club in 1975 when they were both teenagers.

During the hearing, the family of Martha Moxley testified before the Connecticut Board of Pardons and Paroles, saying that Skakel needs to serve at least 10 more years before he should even be considered for parole.

Skakel, who also testified, maintained his innocence before the board.

In the end, the board agreed with the Moxley family, keeping Skakel behind bars until his next hearing in five years.

Skakel, however, may be freed by the courts earlier as he has an appeal before the courts set to be heard in the spring. To watch Skakel's entire parole hearing, click on News 12 Extra on Optimum TV channel 612.
