MILFORD - A young boy from Milford is helping families in need this holiday season by making a special gift.

Aiden McKernan says he was upset to learn that the shelves of the Milford Food Bank were nearly empty. So, the 9-year-old came up with an idea to raise money to buy more food.

McKernan and his grandmother have spent countless evening hours in their basement, gluing and nailing different pieces together to make a custom Christmas tree standing just over 1 foot tall.

Those interested in winning the tree can enter a drawing. A winner will be chosen a few days before Christmas.

The money from the drawing will go toward the Milford Food Bank's account.

A food bank employee says they are constantly seeking help as they give out nearly 6,000 pounds of food each month to feed more than 100 families.
