Milford firefighters rescue man from Wepawaug River

MILFORD - Milford firefighters braved an unusually frigid spring night Saturday to save a man from the Wepawaug River.

Fire officials say customers at the Southport Brewing Company at 33 New Haven Ave. called 911 when they saw the man lying on the bank of the river across the street. Firefighters say they found the man about 20 feet down one of the banks.

The man suffered cuts and scrapes, and police say he may have hit his head, because he was delirious at the time of the rescue. He was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital. The hospital has not released word on his condition.
