STRATFORD - A team of Milford firefighters rescued two stranded fishermen as their boat began to sink last night.

Gus Pappaeliou, of Long Island, says he came to Connecticut with a friend to see the beach and go fishing. However, he says he noticed water in the boat's engine about six hours into the trip.

Milford fire officials happened to be training in the area and were able to pump water out of the sinking boat when the fishermen called for help. Officials say the problem was caused by a mechanical error in the engine compartment.
