HARTFORD - A hearing was held in Hartford yesterday to learn more about why hundreds of hours of dash cam tapes shot in Milford police cars were deleted.

The tapes were sought by lawyers for two teens killed in a crash with a Milford police officer.

The tape of that incident showed the officer was driving more than 90 miles per hour at the time of the crash. Lawyers for the teens had hoped to use the tapes to prove a pattern of speeding by the department.

The Freedom of Information Commission interviewed Chief Keith Mello yesterday who said some of the clips were accidentally erased by a part-time employee who misunderstood directions.

The commission says a report on the case should be ready by Friday.
