MILFORD - Milford's police chief plans to retire next week, then be rehired the next day.

City officials say the move will allow Chief Keith Mello to start collecting his severance and pension right now.

He'll then sign a five-year deal that will pay him about $100,000 annually.

Milford officials say the move will actually save the city about $250,000 over the life of the contract.
