MILFORD - Milford Public Schools will be implementing various security improvements with the help of the second round of state money Gov. Malloy made available this week.

School officials plan to use the money to buy bulletproof windows, upgrade security systems and pay for the improvements they've already made since the Newtown shootings.

Chief Operations Officer Jim Richetelli says all of these changes are an effort to make schools a comfortable learning place while being as safe as possible.

“We don't want our schools to be fortresses, but we do want them to be fortified,” he says.

According to Richetelli, high schools and middle schools in the district will also have an armed security resource officer on hand by January 2014.
