Milford veteran chosen to be aboard USS Intrepid

NORWALK - A former sailor from Milford was invited to celebrate Veterans Day on the newly restored USS Intrepid this Tuesday.

Walter Kupson served as an engineman in the U.S. Navy during the Cuban missile crisis and the Vietnam War.

?We were running picket boats around the ship to make sure there was nobody going to sneak up and blow us up,? Kupson says.

And though he denies being a hero, he is honored and excited to spend Veterans Day aboard the USS Intrepid during its dedication ceremony.

?It means a lot to me,? Kupson says. ?It should be there for recognition for the troops. A lot of people gave their lives.?
