Mom, 3 kids safe in Conn. after leaving Haiti

NORWALK - An American mother and her three children are safe in Norwalk after evacuating Haiti and leaving their home behind.

Yverline Pierre-Louis says she wanted to stay and help, but by Friday she and her husband realized it would be safer for their children to return to the states. Pierre-Louis says her husband stayed behind in Port-au-Prince to help with the relief effort.

Pierre-Louis says it's bittersweet to be out of Haiti.

"I lived it, I see it and I'm here, I'm planning on helping them," she says.

The State Department estimates about 45,000 Americans were living in Haiti when the quake hit.
