NEWTOWN - More than 100 protesters today called on state and federal officials to curb gun violence by enacting tougher laws.

Demonstrators gathered at the National Shooting Sports Foundation's headquarters in Newtown to push for universal background checks. The organization, a trade group for the firearms industry, is the second largest gun lobby in the nation.

The foundation did not respond to News 12 Connecticut's request for comment.
