Mother, daughter dead following fire on Crane Street in Fairfield

Officials say they pulled a woman and her adult daughter from a second-floor bedroom. (3/10/14)

FAIRFIELD - Firefighters say a 47-year-old mother and 19-year-old daughter are dead following a house fire in Fairfield.

Firefighters say the blaze started on Crane Street at around 1 a.m. Monday. Officials say heavy smoke was coming from the house where the two were stuck inside.

They say they pulled the woman and her daughter from a second-floor bedroom. Firefighters tell News 12 both victims were taken to Bridgeport Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

Firefighters are still investigating what caused the blaze, but at this time they say it may have started on the first floor. They say one smoke detector was found in the basement of the house.
