BRIDGEPORT - The mother of a pregnant Bridgeport woman killed in a car accident over the weekend spoke publicly Thursday for the first time since her daughter’s death.

The accident happened at the intersection of Madison Avenue and Queen Street shortly after 11 p.m. on Saturday.

Jasmine Pedroza, 26, was killed when the car she was riding in spun out of control and landed on its roof, leaving another person in the vehicle dead as well.

Her mother, Jessie Cooney, says Pedroza was five months pregnant at the time of the crash. She said her heart is hurting not only for her daughter, but also for the family of her daughter's lifelong friend who died in the crash.

Cooney fought back tears as she described how she has been coping since her daughter's death. She said her daughter's legacy will be the happy memories she left behind in the hearts of those who knew her well.

Cooney said a burial fund has been set up to help pay for her daughter's final expenses. She said a funeral will be held next week.
