BRIDGEPORT - The mother of a 16-year-old girl shot in the face in Bridgeport over the weekend is calling for the gunman to be brought to justice.

Authorities say Kemoune Thomas was struck by a bullet from a passing car Saturday night on Ezra Street. Her mother, Kayann McLeod, says Thomas was headed to a Sweet 16 party with a friend when the shots were fired.

Thomas was rushed to St. Vincent's Medical Center, where she underwent life-saving surgery. The sophomore at Central High School is talking and aware, but will require more operations as the bullet is still lodged in her head.

Detectives are still searching for the shooter.
