Mother of lost Bridgeport toddler charged

BRIDGEPORT - Bridgeport police say the mother of a 3-year-old boy left alone outside a school yesterday is charged with risk of injury to a minor.

Police say another mother noticed the abandoned boy sleeping on the playground at the Jettie Tisdale School on Hollister Avenue at around 8 p.m. The mother called police, who took Javan Odom to a hospital.

It wasn't until about noon today that police say 37-year-old Tonya Odom showed up at the Bridgeport Police Department looking for her son.

Sgt. Roberto Melendez says Odom's two oldest daughters took several kids to the park and didn't realize Javan wasn't with them when they left.
