Mother who left child alone charged

BRIDGEPORT - Bridgeport police have charged a woman with risk of injury to a minor after they say she left her 3-year-old son outside a Bridgeport school Tuesday night and didn't come looking for him until Wednesday.

Tonya Odom, 37, told police her son Javan was with his older sisters who accidentally left him behind at the playground outside the Jettie Tisdale School around 8 p.m. She didn't call police until almost noon on Wednesday.

Javan is currently in the custody of the state Department of Children and Families.

Odom, who is currently pregnant with her 11th child, was released on a promise to appear in court.
