NEW CANAAN - The MTA delivered a check to New Canaan First Selectman Rob Mallozzi for work that was done by local police for the Metro-North last summer.

The MTA apologized to the town Wednesday afternoon for the overdue check, saying they would send the check by train.

Metro-North train No. 1740 arrived at the New Canaan station in the evening, delivering the check for the full amount.

The check was presented to Mallozzi, and pays for the work the New Canaan Police Department did protecting Metro-North's grade crossings during track work in August.

Mallozzi says he is outraged that the MTA had failed to pay the town over $45,000 for work that was done last summer.

“I can't believe it took this long to get a check generated for the town of New Canaan for an invoice that was due in September,” says Mallozzi.

The MTA said in a statement, "We apologize to the First Selectman that the payment took as long as it did, and we moved as quickly as possible to get the check into his hands."
