FAIRFIELD - Metro-North officials and police are investigating after a person was fatally struck by a train in Fairfield Saturday evening.

The incident occurred on the tracks behind the Super Stop and Shop on Kings Highway Cutoff at around 6:30 p.m. According to officials, the train full of passengers was stopped for nearly an hour as police investigated.

Officials have not yet released the victim's identity or what caused the accident.
