The Mystic bridge on Route 184 reopened Wednesday to cheers ofnearby stores in a shopping plaza. Store owners say theirbusinesses have been hurt because traffic had to be detoured duringthe closure.

A devastating flood destroyed the small bridge along thatstretch of road March 30.

The part of the bridge that was destroyed was 75 years old. Thenew bridge has a much wider opening underneath, now 50 feet, compared to 15 feet when it collapsed.

The bridge cost $2 million to build. Most of the costs werefederally funded.
