EAST HAVEN - Neighbors near the site of a morning plane crash in East Haven are trying to cope with tragedy so close to home.

Residents say they were shocked when a small plane went down as it attempted to land at Tweed New Haven Airport, engulfing two homes in flames. One woman says she saw the aircraft making its final descent, and even heard the explosion it made once it crashed.

Another observer noted that "every single person in this community is a shareholder in this unforgettable tragedy."

A first responder who rushed to the scene says it may take people hours, if not days to comprehend what happened.
