ORANGE - Author John-Manuel Andriote is releasing a new children's book about a runaway cow that is based on a true story covered by News 12 Connecticut back in 2011.

"Wilhelmina Goes Wandering" draws from an incident involving a real cow that ran away from a farm in Orange. Wilhelmina eluded animal control for eight months, but was eventually captured in Milford.

Andriote says the book contains life lessons for kids and adults about "accepting one's difference.”

“Sometimes we need to leave our familiar pasture to find our true home," said Andriote.

Wilhelmina is currently at an animal sanctuary in Oxford, Conn. Andriote says he hopes to write a sequel to his book about the cow, and he has an audio book in the works.
