NEW CANAAN - A New Canaan family is hoping to make its homemade granola business into a household brand.

Cordy Gould Kelly is the master baker behind Kelly's Four Plus Granola. Her sons Nate and Will round out the company's list of employees, but they have a few interns.

Kelly and her sons make every batch of the granola by hand at a commercial kitchen in South Norwalk. Every almond is individually cut in half and every bag is individually stamped with an expiration date.

This business started in the family's kitchen in New Canaan. Last year, the family took its special blend of oats, canola oil, honey and maple syrup to the public.

A year ago, the granola was only sold at farmers markets. Now, Kelly's Four Plus is sold at 45 stores from southwestern Connecticut to Manhattan. All Whole Foods and Shop Rite stores throughout Fairfield County are selling the product.

The Kelly family's goal is to have a national brand granola, much like Bear Naked, which also started in southwestern Connecticut.

Kelly says Four Plus refers to the four base ingredients in the granola, plus the nuts or berries that are added. It's also a reference to her four kids, plus her husband.
