New Canaan record store to close

NEW CANAAN - A longtime New Canaan music and video store will close its doors soon.

The Gramophone Shop on Main Avenue is holding a going-out-of-business sale this week after 38 years.

Owner Jack Trifero says he has dealt with fierce competition over the years from companies like Netflix and Walmart, but says free rentals at the town's library ultimately did him in.

Gramophone is charging $6.98 for used DVDs and $9.98 for used Blu-ray discs and games as part of the sale.
