New charges filed against Dirk Heideklang in trooper crash

DARIEN - Police say a man accused of hitting a state trooper's cruiser while driving a stolen truck is now facing new charges in connection with the incident.

Police say Dirk Heideklang, 19, refused to stop at a seat belt checkpoint and then hit the cruiser of a trooper who tried to stop him.

Heideklang had already faced local charges.

Officials say the new charges issued by the state include DUI, reckless driving, and disobeying an officer's signal.
