NORWALK - A new gun law is set to take effect in Connecticut.

The new law will require gun owners who have been convicted of using a deadly weapon to register with the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection for five years.

Anyone who legally owns a magazine with more than 10 rounds must register it with the state.

Anyone who legally owns a now-banned assault weapon must apply for a certificate of possession.

The law takes effect Jan. 1.
