STAMFORD - While the price of Powerball has doubled, lotto players are betting the new odds will be in their favor for tonight's drawing.
The price for a single Powerball ticket increased to $2 from $1, but the odds are a mere 1 in 175 million, down from an astronomical 1 in 195 million.
Making things more tempting are the higher expected jackpots, with the starting jackpot now at $40 million instead of the paltry $20 million it used to reset to after someone had won.
Some residents say the higher prices for tickets will keep them from playing their luck, but many say the dream of winning big is far more powerful than a $1 increase in ticket prices.
Tonight's Powerball drawing happens at 10:59 p.m. and has an $80 million jackpot.
